Suggested itineraries- Itinerary no. 1: LONGIANO
Cervia- Longiano- Roncofreddo- Montiano – Cervia. 70 km without steep slopes.
Medium difficulty.
This scarcely crowded itinerary gives cyclists the possibility to enjoy breathtaking views over Longiano. One of Romagna’s most beautiful villages, it is dominated by the impressive Malatesta Castle (which is home to the famous Balestra Museum) and hosts the fascinating Petrella Theatre, which is often the venue for important representations.
- Itinerary no. 2: SOGLIANO
Cervia – Sogliano al Rubicone – Borghi – Cervia. 80 km with several ups and downs
(and a 3-km-long climb featuring a 7% incline). Medium-high difficulty. Sogliano nestles at the mouth of the river Rubicone. This itinerary leads to the famous caves where the local Cave Cheese is stored, and gives participants the possibility to enjoy wonderful food and wine experiences.
- Itinerary no. 3: CERVIA’s SALT PANS
Cervia – Savio – Castiglione – Pisignano – Cervia’s Salt Pans – Cervia. 45 km. Flat territory. Low difficulty. In Cervia, cyclists will have the opportunity to visit the ancient “Salt Pans” dating back to the Etruscan Age, which are hosted inside the enchanting Park of the Po Delta.
- Itinerary no. 4: BARBOTTO
Cervia – Borello – Mercato Saraceno – Barbotto – Sogliano – Cervia. 90 km. High difficulty. The most famous climb of Romagna is dedicated to expert cyclists! (on the occasion of the famous Selle Italia cycling competition, the same climb is reached from the opposite direction).
- Itinerary no. 5: VERRUCCHIO
Cervia – Verucchio – Cervia. 80 km. Medium difficulty. Verucchio, the so-called “Cradle of the Malatesta Seigniory” boasts ancient origins. It is situated on the top of an impressive rock spur, and boasts breathtaking views over the underlying territory. Its picturesque square and the imposing Sasso Fortress, which gathers monumental towers and a majestic bulwark, bear witness to the ancient Malatesta domination. Not to be missed is the splendid Parish Church, which dates back to the X century.
- Itinerary no. 6: SANTARCANGELO
Cervia – Gambettola – Santarcangelo – Cervia. 55 km. Flat territory. Low difficulty. Santarcangelo still retains a fascinating medieval atmosphere. It is characterized by narrow stone streets and ancient nooks and crannies, impressive brick walls, picturesque workshops and fascinating mills, and is dominated by the imposing Malatesta Fortress.
The nearby hamlet of Gambettola is scattered with ancient print shops, while Santarcangelo cherishes ancient tufa cellars.
- Itinerary no. 7: BERTINORO
Cervia – Pisignono – Forlimpopoli – Bertinoro - Pievesistina – Cervia. 65 km. Medium difficulty. The itinerary can even be extended for further 15 kilometres, in order to include the steep slope which leads up to Polenta and Frattaterme. Bertinoro is a cosy hamlet which is famous for its excellent local wine. Cyclists will have the possibility to enjoy wonderful food and wine experiences.
The cycle paths which cross the pinewood forest, the local parks and the sea front provide cycle tourists with a valid alternative to the beach.
